Ford F150 Owners Continue to Wonder About Dashboard Warping Problem

We receive a number of inquiries from Ford F150 owners from across the country each month who continue to experience dashboard warping and splitting issues. This is an issue that’s been going on since 2015 and it doesn’t seem like there is a real solution being provided by Ford dealers or Ford Motor Company.

People want to know – why is the problem continuing and why does Ford seem not to be providing an appropriate and permanent fix.

Here are some actual inquiries that our office has received since the beginning of July 2019:

“I just bought a 2019 Ford F150 last week and noticed that it has the same warped dash as the others that have reported it….I just payed 40k for this truck……”

“My F150 dash is warped. 2018 already replaced dashed new one has been in two months and warped.”

“My F150 Dash is warping consistent with Fords service bulletin….it has been a month since I brought it to the dealers attention and still no part in house.”

“My 2018 Ford F-150 warp the same week a bought it. Also my truck is at the dealer again for the third time for the CHT sensor fail that cause the engine to run falsely hot and shuts the power down on the freeway. I have started a claim for Ford to buy back the lemon. I do not trust Ford anymore.”

The Ford owners are concerned – and very frustrated.

Many people are taking to social media to educate other owners about the issue – as well as rightfully complain.

Owners of 2015-2019 Ford F-150s across the nation have been vocal for years about the increasing number of vehicles with dashboard warping and splitting. In many cases, this dashboard defect became evident within a month of purchasing the vehicles. Despite the many complaints, Ford has spent years refusing to take responsibility and address the warping dashboards.

Within the last few months, Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #SSM 47270 to allegedly address the problem. According to the bulletin, Ford is allegedly offering and providing replacement parts for warped dashboards in 2015-2019 Ford F-150 XL or XLT models that are still under warranty.

As outlined in the bulletin, “some 2015-2019 F-150 XL/XLT vehicles may exhibit warping/separation of the instrument panel at the defrost vents. To resolve the condition, replace the instrument panel upper section.” Ford’s remedy requires multiple parts, and based on the model of truck, will take 6-7 hours to inspect and repair the vehicle – essentially a full days worth of work for which many owners could potentially lose a full work day without access to their vehicle. That’s an inconvenience at the very least. For owners who rely on their vehicle for work, it could mean burning personal hours, using a vacation day or even lost earning potential.

If you have not been contacted, you should contact Ford directly and/or your dealership and specifically inquire about TSB #SSM 47270.
